Manual cameras: Nikon fm10, Pentax zx-m, or Minolta x-700?

I’m taking photography in highschool and I was wondering what kind of camera I should get. My teacher recommended the Nikon fm10 and it seems pretty good to me. In class though, I tried the Pentax zx-m and I liked it. It seems like it has more functions than the Nikon but I don’t know because I’ve never physically seen then Nikon. I’m not sure if the Nikon is much like the Pentax, but I liked how the Pentax had the automatic film rewind and that depth of field preview button. Also, my mom’s friend was going to sell me his Minolta x-700 with the flash attachment for pretty cheap so now I have to decide between the three cameras haha. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I guess I was going to get the Nikon because it has a lot of good lens options I heard, but I really liked the Pentax.

Nikon FM10 is actually a Cosina model but made under quality control from Nikon and marketed by Nikon. It’s a very basic camera with center weighted metering.

It’s main advantage is the mount. You can buy whatever Nikkor lenses that you like and be happy. The meter is displayed in the viewfinder using red and green LED based ‘+’ , ‘o’ and ‘-’ symbols. It even features a depth of field preview button.

The only disadvantage which I find in it is the lack of spot meter.

There’s a small design fault too which becomes visible when metering low shutter speeds and on high ISO’s but there’s a work around for it once you understand the concept of exposure values.

To sum it up, your teacher is right. Buy a Nikon FM10 and if possible exchange the kit lens (35-70) for a standard 50mm Nikkor.
